Victoria Alday-Sanz Ph.D., is an independent consultant with over 20 years of experience in the field of animal health in aquatic animals in Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.  She is listed as an expert by the following organizations: FAO, OIE, UE, EFSA, NORAD and ADB and her areas of experience in industrial aquaculture are the design, implementation, and auditing of biosecurity strategies; the development, training, auditing and solving of diagnostic problems; improvements in sanitary management; preparation of sanitary legislation and the development of national aquaculture sanitary strategies.  In research her field of expertise in the pathogenesis of viral and bacterial diseases in shrimp as well as soil diagnosis and therapy.  Her editorial experience includes more than 30 papers published in peer reviewed journals and a number of articles published in various magazines of the industry.  She has written a column for the Global Aquaculture Advocate magazine for over 10 years and is the editor of The Shrimp Book and the Shrimp Disease Diagnosis CD-ROM.

John Benzie Ph.D., Has worked extensively for more than 25 years in government, university and private sectors worldwide, applying genetics to natural resource management and aquaculture. He has led programs in aquaculture, biotechnology and marine science for Australian Government agencies, the University of New South Wales, and a multi-national shrimp breeding company. He is currently Professor of Marine Molecular Biodiversity at University College Cork, Ireland.

Claude E. Boyd Ph.D., International expert of global recognition, with over 500 publications in international peer reviewed journals and industry magazines of large circulation.  Dr. Boyd has published nine books on topics related to pond water and soil quality in aquaculture.  Has been the main instructor in over 300 courses worldwide.  His most recent research is focused on water quality in aquaculture ponds, best management practices, aquaculture pond soil treatment as well as on the environmental impacts of aquaculture production and certification systems. 

Olivier Decamp Ph.D., Olivier Decamp is Product Manager Health for INVE Aquaculture. He earned his Lic. Degree in Biology from Namur University (Belgium) and was awarded a Ph.D. from the University of Leicester (UK) in Zoology (microbial ecology of artificial wetlands). He completed EU-funded and STA-funded Pos-Docs in marine microbial ecology at Hiroshima University and the Nansei Research Institute in Japan. Before taking the position of Product Manager with INVE Aquaculture, he worked as a Research Scientist at the Oceanic Institute in Hawaii and as a Research Scientist for INVE Technologies in Belgium. He is the author of over 50 publications. He is currently based in Bangkok, Thailand.

Thomás Gitterle Ph.D., is the Director of the Genetics Department of the Centre for Aquaculture Research in Colombia, CENIACUA.  He has been a researcher in the genetic improvement program at CENIACUA since 1977.  Dr. Gitterle a member of the scientific committee of the International Association of Geneticists in Aquaculture (IAGA) and of the group of scientific advisors of Akvaforsk Genetic Centre (AFGC) in Norway.  He is the author of more than 12 scientific papers in peer reviewed journals and of 2 chapters in international books.  Amongst his fields of research is the development of new models of assessing scientific parameters and infection methodologies to increase the genetic resistance of P. vannamei shrimp against WSSV and the genetic improvement of Tilapia both of the red and nilotica types.

Joao Rocha Ph.D., Geneticist of the Shrimp Breeding Program of Aquatech/GENEARCH.  He has acted as Consultant Geneticist of the Shrimp Breeding Program of Integrated Aquaculture International both in Brunei as well as in Hawaii.  Previously he was geneticist at the Shrimp Breeding Program of Sygen/SyAqua in Hawaii, Mexico, Brazil and Thailand.  Dr. Rocha also has experience in cattle, corn, mouse genetics and the application of markers in genetic breeding programs.  He is the author of 17 peer reviewed publications and a number of non peer reviewed publications and technical corporate reports.

Albert G. J. Tacon Ph.D., is Technical Director of Aquatic Farms Ltd (Hawaii) and is currently Visiting Professor at the Instituto de Investigaciones Oceanologicas, Universidad Autonoma de Baja California (Ensenda, Mexico). Dr Tacon has over 30 years of post doctoral experience in aquaculture nutrition and feed related activities, including over 42 in-country work experiences and over 200 publications. Dr Tacon serves as Scientific Advisor on Aquatic Resources to the International Foundation for Science,  Stockholm, Sweden (since 1998),  and is Editor-in-Chief of Reviews in Aquaculture, and member of the editorial board of Aquaculture Nutrition and Aquaculture Research.

Laurence Massaut Ph.D., specialized in water quality and aquatic ecosystem management under Dr. Claude Boyd’s supervision.  Her research work focuses on understanding the ecological processes that controls aquaculture production and evaluating the environmental impact of this activity.  She has 20 years of experience in controlling phytoplankton in aquatic ecosystem and is recognized for her work on off-flavor.  She has collaborated with various research institutes and private companies to offer practical solutions to reduce its impact.  Laurence has more than 50 scientific and technical publications.

Daniel Lemos Ph.D., Professor and lead researcher of the Aquaculture Laboratory of the University of São Paulo, Brazil, develops research programs on feed and nutrition of shrimp and fish species in topics of quality control of raw materials, digestibility and environmental support capacity.  Dr. Lemos is an expert for organizations such as NRA and FAO and has reviewed and written scientific papers for the main scientific media as well as for magazines of the industry. 

Leland Lai MSc, is principal of Aquafauna Bio-Marine Inc. and Aquatic Stock Improvement Company LLC and a pioneer in providing genetic/tracking tools for aquatic breeding.  His work has focused on the generation of DNA microsatellite libraries and candidate markers and has worked with over 700 different plant and animal species.  Lai has worked generating di-, tri- and tetra-nucleotide libraries used in species identification and breeding in order to determine diversity loss, tracking families, stocks of origin, etc.

Stanislaus Sonnenholzner Ph.D, is Scientific Coordinator of the National Aquaculture and Marine research Center of Ecuador. His area of research is in fisheries and aquaculture with specialization in soil and water quality, focusing on pond management practices for sustainable shrimp culture and with multi-disciplinary academic and working background. Dr. Sonnenholzner was awarded the H. S. Swingle Award for Outstanding Doctoral Student 1998-1999 in Auburn University, USA. Dr. Sonnenholzner is the author of more than 25 publications.
